(Englewood, Colo.) – December 19, 2019 Saunders Construction, a leading construction manager and general contractor in Colorado, is celebrating 10 years of its employee-driven community initiative – Building Confidence in Kids (BCiK) this holiday season.

“Saunders Construction is proud and excited to be celebrating 10 years of our BCiK program,” said Justin Cooper, vice president at Saunders Construction. “It is important to us to find new and innovative ways of making a bigger and more positive impact in our community, and we look forward to the next 10 years of partnering with charities that truly make a difference in the places we live and build.”

BCiK began in 2009 as a philanthropic initiative focused on the support, well-being and development of children. Designed to complement Saunders’ traditional philanthropic giving, the program creates an employee outlet for volunteerism and community impact. Every year, BCiK forms a partnership with one nonprofit organization, while actively maintaining past philanthropic relationships, to provide financial and in-kind donations, as well as volunteer contributions.

Current BCiK partners include Warren Village, Mount Saint Vincent, Heart & Hand Center, and Brent’s Place. In August of this year, Saunders raised $75,000 for BCiK partner Heart & Hand Center with its Second Annual Clay Shoot Fundraiser. To celebrate the current season of giving, Saunders recently provided holiday dinners for all current BCiK partners, which gave meals to 85 families.

“Last year, we held our first fundraiser for Heart & Hand with a car wash and that expanded to a sporting clay shoot that’s raised well over $100,000 in the past two years,” said Alex Krasnec, development manager and BCiK committee lead. “This year, BCiK has helped Heart & Hand with marketing assistance, mentoring, staff appreciation efforts, higher-education roundtables and 10 volunteer events.”

In the last 10 years, Saunders employees have spent over 4,500 volunteer hours participating in or hosting 140 BCiK events including family dinner nights, career fairs, sporting games, arts and crafts nights, science education nights, car washes, runs/walks, and even performing construction repair services on the partner facilities.

To choose a two-year-long partner, the Saunders’ BCiK selection committee, comprised entirely of Saunders employees from all departments of the company, read numerous proposals submitted by local charities dedicated to children, family and/or education. At the end of the two-year partnership, the selection committee will be charged with finding a new nonprofit partner whose mission serves a similar purpose.
