Saunders Construction Celebrates Completion of Newest Recreation Center in Aurora

(Englewood, Colo.) – Jan. 25, 2023 – Saunders Construction, a leading construction manager/general contractor in Colorado, recently celebrated the completion of the Southeast Recreation Center and Fieldhouse for the City of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, with a grand opening on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The project is the newest recreation center for the City of Aurora, which continues to see increasing development and population growth year over year.

Construction commenced in February 2021, following an extensive public input process. The $41.9 million, 77,000–square-foot center reflects the needs and wants of the community in the southeast section of the city. Located near several neighborhoods and the Aurora Reservoir, the center is a regional destination boasting the first indoor fieldhouse within the city in addition to a variety of other amenities and breathtaking views of the Colorado mountains.

One the center’s most prominment features is the 23,000-square-foot fieldhouse, which provides athletes of all ages and sports the chance to play year-round in a temperature-controlled indoor environment. The center also boasts a first-of-its-kind, dynamic track that offers a 1/9-mile track with grade changes elevated above the fitness area and gymnasium, creating a unique walking and running environment for guests.

In addition, visitors will find an 8,000-square-foot multiuse gymnasium, a cross-functional natatorium that includes a lazy river and 20-foot-tall water slide, a 7,600-square-foot fitness area with state-of-the-art equipment, a large community room, party rooms, and on-site child care.
